Fair Trade Towns
Fair Trade Towns is an international movement to designate and publicly recognize towns that support Fair Trade principles.
Five criteria must be met to earn Fair Trade Town designation:
1. A steering committee is in place.
2. A significant number of local organizations use Fair Trade products as a matter of policy.
3. Fair Trade products are readily available for purchase from local businesses.
4. Fair Trade attracts media attention.
5. The local government passes a resolution endorsing Fair Trade.
There are 1,000 Fair Trade Towns worldwide. In April of 2012, Claremont joined Boston and Chicago and became the 28th Fair Trade Town in the United States.
